Garden Creations is based in Stroud Green, so N4 is our home patch. We look after regular gardens here, and design and build new ones, from long Victorian back gardens to the small front gardens that sit between a house and the street.
Streets of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, many of them converted into flats, mean gardens that are long, narrow and overlooked. A good plan makes a small space feel larger: planting chosen for the light it really gets, paving that drains, and a layout that gives you somewhere to sit.
Clay soil
Like most of North London, N4 sits on London clay. It holds water through the winter and bakes hard in a dry summer, so preparing the soil matters as much as choosing the plants.
Trees and conservation areas
If your street is in a conservation area, the council normally needs six weeks’ written notice before you cut down or heavily prune a tree. It is worth checking before any work is booked.
